Rubus = the common blackberry

Hobos = originally migrant workers traveling by freight train

In 2024, Jens Besser traveled through Germany and the Czech Republic on freight trains to collect berries for jam. He found blackberries in Děčín, Krefeld and Maschen near Hamburg, among other places. Besser made his RUBUS HOBOS jam from the berries he collected.

The publication RUBUS HOBOS – Beeren sammeln entlang des Schienenstrangs documents the process of traveling by freight train, collecting berries and making jam with photographs, drawings and texts.

On further journeys through Europe, Besser created murals, from which he always took a few sections on paper. These papers were used to create handmade screen-printed publications, which are now being presented in an exhibition for the first time. Drawings and screen prints will also be shown.

Besser will present the publication “RUBUS HOBOS” to the Dresden public for the first time at the Büchers Best bookshop on 16.10.2024 from 20.00 hrs.

There will be a jam tasting at the presentation and vernissage.

The exhibition can be seen from 17.10.2024 to 30.11.2024 during store opening hours.
